Agrisea: Grow crops in high salt conditions

AgriseaEmbryoVentures

Agrisea is a #sustainable #foodtech startup built to solve world #hunger by evolving #sustainable food systems through #ocean #agriculture. Rory Hornby and Luke Young have developed a way to grow crops in high salt conditions such as salt soils or coastal waters.

The salt-tolerant crops grow on #floating #ocean #farms, which are nutritionally supported by the natural flow of #nutrients carried around the world.

The #farms are designed with spatial #optimization and a #hydroponic basis in mind, wave motion is mitigated. The plant roots are positioned to absorb the necessary #nutrients directly from the surrounding #saltwater.

Combining the #future of food with the frontier science of ocean #agriculture, Agrisea will aim to create #sustainable food production genuinely, reducing freshwater usage by 70%, satisfying the 60% increase in global food demand by 2050 and absorbing atmospheric #methane, a GHG 23x worse than carbon dioxide.
